Are You Pre-Transition Ready?

When I said goodbye to the creamy crack, I couldn’t bear to do the big chop because I’m the biggest fan of length and I didn’t want to come out looking really odd with it. So transition it was for me.

The transitioning process can be quite daunting, especially when compared to the big chop.
For me, the transition process wasn’t as daunting as people claimed or maybe it was just me excited about staying away from relaxers and trying something different.

Here are a few tips to make this process less daunting for you:

1.    Positive Attitude: Why are you transitioning in the first place? It maybe hair damage caused by dyes, heat, relaxers or... just plain seeing someone rocking their natural hair and it looks good, so now you want to return to your natural roots. Think about the positive side. You are on a path to a healthier hair. Thinking of the positive, makes it more exciting.

In my case the hair damage and relaxing issues was the major reason I decided to transition. This was exactly what I needed! The excitement of trying out something different for my hair kept me motivated for this process.

2.    Do Thorough Research: Spend time researching on this topic before going headlong into it. You need to get your information right. Thank God for the internet! There are tons of reliable sources online. If you have friends that have gone natural, it’s an added bonus, ask them questions.

3.    Have The Right Mind Set: This is going to be a game changer! The fact is you will be making some big changes in your hair routine from now on. Unless of course you had a pretty good routine before now. You are going to be spending more time, probably more money and giving your hair some TLC. So you have to be prepared.

4.    Be Patient: Try cultivating some patience, okay? Now there will be longer wash days, co-wash days, dealing with two textures, trying out new hairstyles and so on. It could be quite tedious. Be patient, as you continue in this healthy hair journey, you will get better at this. There will be a few tricks to pick up about what works best for your hair and some needed shortcuts for time saving.
